The Level 4 Programme is made up of 5 modules:
This Module provides an introduction to Law and Legal Method in England and Wales by
describing in detail how legal rules are made and applied along with an overview of the
constitution and how it regulates the allocations of functions, powers and duties amongst the
agencies of government and the relationship between them, including the courts (and
tribunals) in relation to civil and criminal matters.
On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
Analyse legal information from various sources of law and understand legal reasoning
Explain where the law comes from, how law is made and the main sources of law
Advise on the method and advisability of resolving legal problems through the civil and
criminal justice systems and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
This Module is designed to introduce the learner to the rules of Contract Law. The Module will focus
on establishing and the formation of a valid contract and bringing a contract to an end. It will
also include common law rules and when a contract is deemed to be void or voidable. In
addition, the Unit will cover recognising possible defects in a contract and remedies that
might be available where a breach of contract has been identified.
On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
Identify and describe the requirements for establishing and forming a valid contract
Explain the reasons why a contract may be deemed illegal, void or voidable and the
ways in which a contract can come to an end
Identify and describe the ways in which a contract may be considered defective
Explain the various remedies available where there is a breach of contract and be able
to apply them to a client’s situation
This Module will develop a general knowledge and understanding of the core principles and
concepts within Land Law including the development of Land Law, ownership of
land, rights over land, joint ownership, mortgages and adverse possession.
It will aim to
explore the relevance of and encourage the development of legal solutions to complex
factual problems in the area of Land Law. Learners will be able to explain and apply
Land Law principles and provide advice in a given fact situation on courses of preventative,
remedial action, remedies and practical consequence and possible solutions.
On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
Explain the registered land system, the various land interests and differentiate between
fixtures and fittings
Explain the various rights that exist over land and be able to apply this knowledge to
answering problem scenarios
Explain the nature and effect of mortgages and remedies and protections, easements
and covenants and the restrictions and obligations imposed on land ownership by both
This Module covers a standard residential sale and purchase transaction of registered freehold
land from initial instructions to post-completion, and finally, including an explanation of the
practical steps and documentation required.
It also covers the basic concepts in leasehold,
commonhold and unregistered land.
Learners are introduced to the use of mortgage finance
for a purchase within a standard residential conveyancing transaction.
The learner will obtain practical skills to prepare and complete a Sale Contract for registered
freehold land together with associated conveyancing documentation.
The Unit also provides
learners with an understanding of the legal and practical implications of a breach of contract
in a residential conveyancing transaction. In order to also support any learner who is already
working in a legal role undertaking residential conveyancing, the Unit provides an
introduction to the rules of professional conduct.
On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
Explain and complete the steps in a standard residential sale and purchase transaction
of registered freehold land from initial instructions to post-completion
Explain the procedures in a standard residential sale and purchase of registered
leasehold land and describe commonhold land
Explain the procedures in an unregistered freehold or leasehold land transaction
Explain and apply the Professional Conduct Rules of the Council for Licensed
Conveyancers
Explain and apply the requirements of mortgage lenders, including consideration of
money laundering issues
Explain and apply the Remedies for breach of the Sale Contract
This Module is designed to enable learners to understand and apply the accounting procedures
and rules relevant to conveyancing transactions.
Learners will demonstrate their
understanding of good book-keeping practice, such as double entry systems, and the basic
principles of recording and dealing with transactions in the context of the CLC Accounts
Code and Guidance, including the uses of office and client bank accounts.
Learners will
make accounting entries to demonstrate receipts, payments and transfers of office and client
money, and to correct errors. Learners will also prepare conveyancing statements and
demonstrate their understanding of billing procedures and paying interest to clients.
On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
Apply the rules and principles set out in the CLC Accounts Code and Guidance to
practical scenarios in a Conveyancing context
Record conveyancing transactions relating to freehold and leasehold property in a
double entry book-keeping system
Prepare an invoice for a conveyancing transaction, including any relevant VAT, and
prepare Conveyancing Statement relating to sales and purchases of freehold and
leasehold properties
Applicants do not need to have formal relevant qualifications to enter this qualification.
Good communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
Current experience of working within a legal practice setting would be advantageous but is not mandatory.

You may be exempt from the whole Level 4 Diploma if you have one of the following:
Law Degree
CILEx Qualifications at Level 6
CPQ Professional
SQE1 FLK1 and FLK2
NALP Level 4 Diploma
You are a CILEx Practitioner or FCILEX
Legal Apprenticeship (Conveyancing Pathway)
You may be exempt from one or more of the Level 4 modules if you have one of the following:
Incomplete law degree
CILEx Qualifications at Level 3 or 4
CPQ Foundation Course
CPQ Advanced
SQE1 FLK1 only
SQE1 FLK2 only
Paralegal Apprenticeship at Level 3
To apply for an exemption, you must provide us with evidence of your qualifications.
We will map your prior learning to the learning outcomes of the relevant module and confirm whether you are eligible for an exemption.
Important Note
Students transitioning from an external qualification to SQA must achieve at least one course without an exemption to be awarded an SQA Diploma.

How are the modules assessed?
The programme comprises five modules.
The English Legal System, Contract Law, Land Law and Conveyancing modules are assessed by assignment which you will be given between 21 and 28 days to complete.
The accounts module is assessed through a 2-hour exam.
The programme is designed to be highly practical, with assessments consisting of short-form questions and scenario-based questions instead of essays.
Where can I sit my exams?
You have the flexibility to take your exams online using remote invigilation, at your workplace (if employed in a CLC or SRA regulated practice), or at one of our exam centres.
When can I sit my exams?
With no fixed assessment windows, you can apply for your exam whenever you feel prepared. Our assessment team will handle all the necessary arrangements.
What support will I receive?
Each module includes a revision and mock exam component, providing you with practice questions, revision exercises, and a mock exam to help you prepare.
What if I don't pass?
We boast an excellent pass rate for all Level 4 modules. However, if you do not pass on your first attempt, you are entitled to resit each assessment at no extra charge.
When you enrol in our programme, you will have access to all the course materials and resources for a full 2 years. This generous time frame ensure you can progress through the curriculum at a pace that suits your personal and professional commitments.
For students who work full-time, the typical completion time ranges between 12 to 18 months.
However, our programmes are designed with flexibility in mind. If you have prior industry experience or can dedicate more time to your studies, you may find that you can complete the programme more quickly.
The structure of our learning material allows for accelerated progress, making it possible to fast-track your qualification and complete the programme in as little as 3 months.

You can apply at any time.
The programme is designed for flexibility, allowing you to start whenever you're ready, progress at your own pace, and request an assessment whenever you feel prepared.
The application process couldn't be simpler.
Just select the programme (or module) which you would like to study and proceed to our checkout process.
Once your application has been received by us, we will provide you with a user name and password so you can access our virtual learning environment (VLE) to complete the induction module.
If you are a new student, you will be required to provide photographic identification as part of your application. This can be scanned and emailed to us within 14 days.
If you have applied to study the Level 6 Diploma in Conveyancing or Probate, you will have to demonstrate that you have met the entry requirements for the programme. You qualifications can be scanned and emailed to us within 14 days.
As soon as we have received your application documents, you can then start your studies at a time and pace which best suits you.
You don't need to be employed in a conveyancing department or have any practical experience in conveyancing to apply for this programme.
The programme is designed with beginners in mind, so assumes no prior knowledge or experience of conveyancing procedures.
However, students who do have practical experience in conveyancing will find the coursework and concepts easier to grasp and navigate.
Our inclusive approach ensures that anyone, regardless of their background, can confidently embark on their journey to becoming proficient in conveyancing.

The workload for this programme varies based on each student's prior knowledge and experience.
The programme is designed for those with no prior legal knowledge or experience. Students new to conveyancing should anticipate committing 2-3 hours per week.
However, if you have pre-existing knowledge or experience, you can progress through the programme more quickly. To support you individual pace, we provide resources that allow you to test your knowledge and fast-track through familiar material, ensuring an efficient and personalised learning experience.
Every student receives comprehensive tutor support to ensure a successful learning experience.
Each module has a dedicated tutor who provides guidance and feedback.
Tutors are accessible via email, our internal messaging system or in live tutor sessions to answer questions, clarify concepts and offer academic advice.
Additionally, students have access to a range of resources, includign discussion forums and regular webinars to foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

You will not need to pay extra to get the certificates for your modules.
Some of our modules do require examination. While the costs of sitting the examination are included in the fees, you will have to arrange your own transport to the examination centre.
Assessments
An assignment is completed in your own time and not under exam conditions and it must be completed within the timeframe indicated for that particular module and piece of work.
An examination is an assessment undertaken, under examination conditions, at an exam venue.
Once you are registered for a programme you will receive detailed information on submitting assignments as well as when and where you will be expected to sit your exam.
We have exam venues around the country and we will help you find the most convenient location for you.
If you are currently working in a CLC or SRA regulated practice, we can arrange for your exam to be taken at your place of work. You will need to arrange for a suitable office space and invigilator (CLC or SRA registered).
Alternatively, you can sit your exam online, using remote invigilation.
Certificates are issued by the awarding body SQA on completion of the full SQA Diploma.
If you have purchased a single module, a module certificate will be sent to you on completion of that individual module. Certification for module certificates takes place twice per month.
The SQA Diploma certificate is only issued on completion of all the units within the Diploma.
Certification for candidates, who achieve the full CLC Diploma, takes place twice weekly.
